REPORT: Ford Opposes Government Monopoly For Cannabis, Supports Free Market Approach

Cannabis / Marijuana News

Doug Ford is already off to a great start as Ontario PC Leader, shining more light on his policy views and making it clear that he opposes more centralized government control.

In a radio interview, Ford said the he supports a free market approach when it comes to Cannabis.

“I don’t believe in the government sticking their hands in our lives all the time. I believe in letting the market dictate.”

Added Ford when asked about impending marijuana legalization, “We’re going down a path that no one really knows. I have been open to a fair market and letting the markets dictate. I don’t like the government controlling anything no matter what it is…. I’m open to a free market and I’m going to consult with our caucus…. I don’t believe in the government sticking their hands in our lives all the time. I believe in letting the market dictate.”

It’s great – and rare – to hear a leader actually say they trust the market decisions made by taxpayers, instead of wanting even more power put in the hands of politicians and bureaucrats.

Ford’s approach is a clear contrast from the policies of Kathleen Wynne, who is constantly extending the tentacles of government into everything. In his initial round of media interviews, Ford is making clear that he is sticking to the promises he made in the campaign to be an advocate for taxpayers who puts his faith in the people, not the government.
